The
Law Office of Matt Sossi Offers Legal Services Regarding Divorce
Is
counseling necessary?
Once
you arrive at my office I presume that all efforts to reconcile
have been attempted and exhausted. It would be in your best interest
to contact a licensed marriage counselor prior to contacting an
attorney if you believe there is a chance to reconcile your relationship.
If you are a member of a church, your priest, pastor or rabbi would
undoubtedly be willing to assist you in your efforts to reconcile
your relationship.
Have
you discussed the impact of divorce on your children?
If
you have the ability to talk with your spouse prior to filing the
divorce I think that is an attribute to both of you. If you and
your spouse are willing to talk about how you will continue to parent
after the divorce I would ask that you attempt to resolve your differences
in writing by looking at
1. what periods of time each parent will have with the children,
2. what rights each parent will have to the children,
3. what monetary support should be paid in support of the children,
4. how health insurance will be provided for the children and
5. how uninsured expenses will be shared.
If you
are unable to work out issues regarding your children you very well
may want to meet with a licensed family counselor together to discuss
what agreements can be reached prior to contacting an attorney.
Your ability to cooperate with the other parent concerning the needs
of your child will serve you and your children well after your divorce.

Are
you interested in joining a divorce support group?
I always
think it best for a client to be close to family and friends when
they are in the midst of divorce proceedings. It might also be in
your best interest prior to filing divorce proceedings to join a
divorce support group. If that is an option you are interested to
look into, inquire at churches and/or on the internet for a group
near your area.
What
is Collaborative Law?
Collaborative
law is a practice by which you and your spouse can attempt to mediate
your differences through attorneys of your choosing. While the Law
Office of Matt Sossi does not provide for you and your spouse to
engage in the practice of collaborative law to resolve your dispute,
you may wish to view the Texas collaborative law counsel’s
web site at the following link::
